Tampa Nurses: Remembering the Nurses Cap

Posted about 2 hours ago by Jean Aertker, DNP, APRN, FAANP

Our Tampa Nursing History Breakfast group gathered December 6th at our usual spot, the IHOP in Tampa to pay tribute to the era of the nurses cap. Such fun remembering the cap stories shared. We received a lot of compliments from the other diners who stopped by to thank us all for being nurses! Shown are school/university caps, military (USAF) cap and public health nurse caps once worn. Kim Curry posted the photo on her Facebook page and this photo received 4K likes,100 shares, and over 700 comments. Testimony to the profound loss we all feel for our beloved caps that were once the prominent symbol and our identity as a “professional nurse”. Scrubs have replaced the caps and uniform tradition and most NPS and nurses now wear lab coats in clinical areas. Do you still have your nursing cap? They are now history!
